Renowned acting coach to hold workshop in Del Mar

Do you aspire to be the next Meryl Streep, Martin Sheen or Julia Roberts?

Join Patrica Del Ruth, acting coach and television show host, as she conducts acting workshops, 6-9 p.m. Nov. 19 and 26 at the Del Mar TV studios.

Del Ruth, who is the host of Creative Café featured on Del Mar TV, teaches a very unique approach to acting.

"I call it 'acting from the heart,'" said Del Ruth, who earned a Masters of psychology from the California Institute for Human Science. "What makes people great actors is what makes them effective communicators."

Del Ruth facilitates her workshops, combining her creative consulting and coaching skills to help participants experience the deeper appreciation and awareness of their own unique individually. She does so by taking participants through innovative exercises that stimulate self-reflection and creative self-expression.

Del Ruth said these seminars are an introduction to what Del Mar residents can expect from a 12 weeks series of classes she will be teaching Jan. 16 through April 3 at Del Mar TV studios.

"These first classes are for people who want the experience of acting without having to make a long commitment to the classes that start in January," said Del Ruth. "The classes are great because people can apply the skills to being a better CEO or a better public speaker. It can it really impact your professional life in addition to being a lot of fun."

Bill Drennen, a senior staff engineer with Qualcomm who attended one of Del Ruth¹s workshops, said, "New product development is a collaborative process that requires good communication skills. Taking the workshop has enhanced my ability to express creative ideas to my colleagues."

Del Ruth, who is on the board of directors for the San Diego Film Festival, is grateful for all of her experiences in the entertainment industry.

"It is my passion," said Del Ruth. "I love that I get to do what I love for a living."

Del Ruth studied acting under Stella Adler, Judith Weston and Tad Danielewski. She is well versed in the Stanislavski "System."

Del Ruth is married to and manages the career of successful cinematographer Thomas Del Ruth (West Wing, The Breakfast Club, X-Files). Her sons are also in the entertainment industry. She says it's nice to have it "all in the family."

In addition to her acting workshops, Del Ruth is very proud of her Creative Café show.

"I feel very lucky to have been able to interview some of the top folks in the industry," said Del Ruth, whose guests have included actress Autumn Reeser, Emmy award winning motion picture editor Stanford Allan, founder of the Independent Film Society Dan Hare and filmmaker Devin Scott.
